I haven’t written a solo acoustic tune since oh, 2005 or so. I was wondering when the next one would come along (if ever), I guess the answer was 9 years later on July 6 2014.
I always loved the short little acoustic guitar ditties on albums I grew up on (see: Tesla, Heart, Simon & Garfunkel, Randy Rhoads, Yngwie Malmsteen, Van Halen, Satriani, Triumph and of course KISS to name a few) and hoped that I could make stuff like that when I grew up. I guess that’s kind of what this ended up being my version of? I randomly picked up my acoustic geetar the other day and started noodling around – KAPOW – this 777-influenced tribute was pulled from the air. Must be a 7 thang. The subtle glittery echo/delay sounds swimming around in there are a blatant nod to Joe Satriani’s “Baroque“, I remember wanting to do that with my guitar sound SO EFFING BAD in 1993.. finally over 20 years later I didn’t have to spend thousands of dollars on an Eventide processor – it’s all possible with a computer.
After all this time I finally have a song written for my lovely wife who I tied the knot with 7 years ago on a very hot, steamy July 7th in Wautoma Wisconsin. I had no idea what a wedding I was starring in would ever be like or if I was even ever going to get married but looking back on that day I must say it was quite awesome, right down to officiant Irreverend Joe Berkman of Iced Ink fame conducting the ceremony and wrapping things up by presenting us with 2 KISS shot glasses filled with tequila.
Love ya, Dahling! Here’s to another 77 years.
