“Beer For A Glass, From A Can (Shut Up & Drink It)” is an Iced Ink tribute to what I consider to be the Best. Beer. Evarrr. That beer is called Furious and is made by Surly in Brooklyn Park, MN. Sadly Furious is not available in my neck of the woods and I miss it dearly. There is nothing else like it out here on the East Coast.
The last time I visited MN my brother Chuck, bless his little fart, won us a tour of the Surly brewery in Brooklyn Park, MN. Chuck, our nephew Brian and I headed out on a fine Saturday afternoon to visit the holy land where this exquisite beer is made. In exchange for some non-perishable food items at the door not only do you get to ture the broory, but each person is given 5 wooden tokens which are redeemed at a long counter with worker bees scurrying about serving various Surly brews directly from the Surly teat. While we were in line for our first round I heard Rush’s Tom Sawyer playing. I turned around and saw it was coming from a telly playing a live Rush concert DVD. Oh yeah. That’s my kind of tour. To our right was a room crammed full of Surly merch up for purchase. 5 glasses of Furious, 1 hat, and 1 t-shirt later I felt like we’d just been to the beer equivalent of the Willy Wonka factory.
It says “Beer For A Glass, From A Can” on the top of most Surly cans and I thought that made for a cool song title. “Shut Up & Drink It” was the working title and I decided to keep it in there. The inspiration behind that comes from nerds who make videos of themselves drinking and reviewing beer. Exhibit A: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qy8EUrLJw3k Dude. It’s beer. Shut the fuck up & drink it.
