I remember when I was a kid sometimes I’d wake up to deafening silence; it was like a constant crescendo of super high pitched noise, sort of like when you’d have a television on mute but can still hear the super high frequencies coming out of it but multiplied by 1,000. I didn’t think much of it then (aside from not enjoying it) but now that I look back maybe it was tinnitus.  ? I don’t know, I’m a guitar player, not a doctor.

I still have it today and the years of wearing headphones and going earplugless to concerts and band practice when I was younger certainly hasn’t helped. I’m pretty strict with wearing ear protection nowadays, especially after reading about what Pete Townsend and Phil Collins are currently going through.

Yesterday while waiting for Hurricane Irene to come wipe out all of NYC I finally got this little fella out of my head. I owe this tune to the Boss BR-80 recorder, it has proven to be a great little sketchpad for song ideas. I pulled up one of its built in drum patterns, came up with that first guitar riff, and the song sort of took the driver’s seat and built itself from that point on. I’m throwing the BR-80 “sketchpad” version on this posting as well just because it’s always fun to hear how something starts out vs. what it ends up being. In this case I pretty much kept everything as is but added quite a bit more once I was actually able to sit down and focus on it.

Here’s the finished product:

And here’s the BR-80 sketchpad/demo version.

Check out those cheesy sounding drums, they’re so cute!
